Session abstracts

Three signature sessions.

Each session gives audiences a clearer understanding of the business of dentistry and a stronger basis for making decisions. Content can be tailored for solo owners, growing groups, leadership teams, and future practice owners, and two or more topics can be combined into one session. Format and depth are agreed during event planning. Custom topics are available on request.

Nikki also welcomes open question-and-answer time, on its own or added to any session. Owners bring the issues their practices are facing, and she answers from her own experience as an owner and coach.

The Business Behind the Dentistry

Lecture 20 to 60 minExtended workshop availableOwners at every stage

A busy practice can still leave its owner wondering where the money went. Understanding why requires connecting the financial results to what happens inside the practice every day.

Drawing on her experience building sixteen practices and coaching dental owners, Nikki explains the relationships between revenue, overhead, team performance, and profitability. She explores what a P&L can reveal, where it needs context, and why an isolated number rarely tells the whole story.

Audiences leave with a clearer understanding of how to evaluate practice performance and recognize which questions deserve attention first.

Audiences leave understanding
  • How revenue, overhead, and profitability relate to one another
  • What financial reports reveal, and what requires a closer look
  • Why benchmarks need context
  • How to distinguish a symptom from a business issue that needs further investigation

Thrive in Any Market

Lecture 20 to 60 minBreakout 60 to 90 minOwners weighing growth

More production, more services, and more locations can look like progress. Whether they strengthen the business depends on what it takes to support them.

This session explores the tradeoffs behind common growth decisions: insurance participation, marketing investment, adding services or specialties, adopting technology, and expanding into new locations. Nikki connects those choices to demand, team capacity, financial performance, and the owner's goals.

Audiences gain a clearer way to evaluate opportunities and recognize when the practice needs a stronger foundation before taking on more.

Audiences leave understanding
  • The difference between increasing activity and strengthening the business
  • How demand, capacity, and profitability shape a growth decision
  • Why marketing, scheduling, and collections must be considered together
  • Which questions to ask before committing to an expansion or investment

The Practice That Runs Without You

Lecture 20 to 60 minBreakout 60 to 90 minOwners and leadership teams

When every decision comes back to the owner, growth can create more pressure than freedom.

Nikki explores what it takes to make a practice less dependent on one person. The session connects clear roles, leadership development, clinical alignment, culture, and accountability to the team's ability to make decisions and maintain standards.

It also examines how owner dependence affects the organization's readiness for additional locations or a future transition. Audiences leave with a clearer picture of the leadership and operational foundations that support stepping back.

Audiences leave understanding
  • How owner dependence shows up in daily operations
  • Why delegation requires clear authority, expectations, and accountability
  • How clinical and administrative leadership support each other
  • Why organizational strength matters for growth and a future transition
